Prioritize You

Prioritize you is an initiative started at C3 Athletics in 2010. Its aim is to remind people to take the time needed to take care of their own health. A lot of us have a long list of priorities and taking care of ourselves and our health sometimes end up at the bottom of that list. It’s not selfish to take the time needed to take care of your health, because if you don’t take care of yourself, then in the end all the things that you now put ahead of your health, may it be work, studies, family, children will all suffer in the long run.

First Lady Michelle Obama discussed making sure to prioritize her health with Oprah Winfrey in an interview in 2009:

Oprah: When you first told me that a few years ago, I was like, “You get up at 4:30 to work out?”

Michelle Obama: Well, I just started thinking, if I had to get up to go to work, I’d get up and go to work. If I had to get up to take care of my kids, I’d get up to do that. But when it comes to yourself, then it’s suddenly, “Oh, I can’t get up at 4:30.” So I had to change that. If I don’t exercise, I won’t feel good. I’ll get depressed.

Working out is not about getting into your beach attire. It’s about your health. Proven health benefits of exercising include:

  • Living a healthier and longer life
  • Prevention of cardiovascular disease
  • Lowering your cholesterol
  • Preventing and controlling type 2 diabetes Lowering your blood pressure
  • Preventing cancer
  • Keeping a healthy weight

A friend of mine recently said: “I need to stop saying that I don’t have time to work out. I should say that I don’t prioritize working out”. Well, it’s never too early to start taking care of your health. But it’s also never too late.
